A Restored Tuscan Retreat in Chianti with Breathtaking Views

Publication Date  Tuesday, April 22, 2025
A view of the villa in chianti

Perched on a charming Tuscan hill, enveloped by vineyards and olive groves, stands Villa Marielena, a beautifully restored stone house brought back to life by the passionate duo of Marisa and Elena, a mother-daughter team whose love for this place is palpable.

When I first encountered this Chianti gem, it was in ruins—without a roof and with walls almost entirely collapsed. Marisa, a dear friend of my grandmother, asked me a few years ago to inspect the property and provide advice on what to do with it. As an architect, my passion lies in discovering authentic houses that I can bring back to life, ultimately renting them professionally to guests.

My mission is to revive authentic homes, turning them into cherished retreats for guests.

This visit ignited a lasting love for this fascinating place, which embodies hard work and dedication—especially that of Marisa, who still tends to the large garden and harvests the olives.

Thus began my deep connection to this remarkable site, a testament to hard work and resilience, especially embodied by Marisa, who tirelessly tends to the expansive garden and gathers olives. With my guidance, Elena secured the necessary funding and assembled a skilled team to realize their dream. Today, we celebrate the villa's inauguration—an authentic beauty that harmonizes with the surrounding hills.

Seeing the villa today brings me immense joy, especially when I remember how it once appeared.

Now, Villa Marielena welcomes up to 8 guests in its four elegantly appointed double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, and a delightful 6-seater hot tub boasting breathtaking views of the Chianti landscape. While the villa shines with modern elegance, it resonates with echoes of its peasant past, a symbol of the hard-earned life cultivated by families who began working the land at a tender age.

This connection to the land and its history makes Villa Marielena especially meaningful to me, as does the dedication, love, and immense effort that these two strong and courageous women have put into this project.

Marisa and Elena, I am grateful for the honor and responsibility of welcoming guests into your beautiful home, ensuring they too can appreciate its beautiful simplicity and the strength it exudes when experienced firsthand.
